Readmissions can be a very costly part of sepsis management and directly impact a hospital’s bottom line. If patients treated for a disease return to the hospital after discharge this not only results in additional treatment costs, but also puts the hospital at risk of reduced payments and even penalties under the CMS Hospital Readmission Reduction Program.

One of the largest -ever studies of Medicare sepsis data was conducted by researchers from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The journal of Critical Care Medicine has published the research in three articles and numerous other studies have found significant implications for patient care, industry, non-government organizations, and government agencies.
